WDAD regularly partner with Osborne Thomas, a provider of recruitment and HR consultancy solutions to the public sector. This included a project to devise an evidence-based EVP for Sutton’s Adult Social Care team, to identify and rectify any potential barriers in the hiring process and create an effective recruitment campaign for multiple roles. EVP research and discovery was conducted by Osborne Thomas and included interviews with social workers, managers, and leaders from multiple ASC teams.

The results provided evidence for EVP construction and also suggestions for an internal communications plan to enhance the recruitment experience and future attrition. WDAD produced evidence-based EVP pillars that aligned with the existing organisational Vision and Values and it was agreed that a dedicated destination was needed for initial applications to better inform candidates, so a campaign microsite was designed and built. The chosen employer brand concept built on the new EVP pillars and the statement ‘Take Pride’ from the Council’s existing Values.

Results

The commitment to a fast-track interview process, better informed applicants and a clear understanding of the EVP resulted in the hiring of 4 x Team Managers, 3 x Social Workers, 2 x Assessment Officers, 1 x Behavioural Therapist, 1 x Assistant Psychologist. Previously these roles were filled via agency staff, with a combined total salary bill to the Council of £682,650. With these roles now filled by directly employed staff, the total salary bill has reduced to £475,450. Total savings to the Council via direct employment is therefore an impressive £207,200
