RNRMC Appoints Alasdair Akass as Director of Marketing and Communications

April 11, 2016

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has appointed Alasdair Akass as Director of Marketing and Communications. Akass will report to CEO Robert Robson and is tasked to significantly raise the organisation’s profile to become the prominent advocate and national voice on naval service charity matters within the military charity sector.

He joins the charity with over 15 years of experience in the voluntary sector, including prominent senior roles at the National Trust, the British School of Paris and most recently as CEO of Sir Ben Ainslie’s start-up sailing charity, the 1851 Trust. During his career Akass has been recognised by his peers with awards for the Outstanding Initiative of the Year and Top UK School Development Office (Independent School Awards), Best Supporter Stewardship Programme (Institute of Fundraising), and has twice been shortlisted UK Professional Fundraiser of the Year (Professional Fundraising magazine). As Legacy Marketing Manager for the National Trust, he oversaw a highly acclaimed campaign which was credited with helping to establish the charity’s position as one of the five largest legacy recipients in the UK.

“Alasdair has delivered amazing creative work for some of the country’s most renowned and beloved charitable institutions and we’re delighted to have him join us”, said Robson. “His experience, passion and drive will help us continue to build our brand, create meaningful marketing campaigns and help us realise our vision of a world in which our sailors and marines and their families are values and supported, for life”.

Akass said: “I am inspired to work with a truly committed team at this young charity at a time when it has distributed more money, and made a greater and more profound impact, than in any other year in its history. I am looking forward to developing integrated supporter communications and helping to uphold the RNRMC’s commitment to giving a better quality of life to serving and former naval personnel”.

David Fielding said: “This is an excellent hire for the RNRMC. Alasdair has extensive experience in the sector, and is extremely passionate and driven at what he does. I believe his history in marketing and fundraising can really help to make a difference in raising the charity’s profile, and ultimately aid its beneficiaries”.
