There’s no one answer as to why people enjoy working here – goodness knows, we’ve tried to nail it in one snappy sentence, but different people have different reasons. So we thought – why not share all of them?
Street fundraising is a million miles away from dull desk jobs, the corporate nine to five and boring, repetitive roles in bars, pubs, clubs, shops, factories and the like. You really can be yourself and enjoy yourself. No data inputting required.
Lots of our fundraisers talk about the unpredictability of the job and the fact that you have so many funny, weird and heart-warming experiences out on the street. Also, being outside in the summer is a big bonus. Think of the tan.
Fundraising is work that you can actually feel good about – not too many jobs offer that. Plus, the longer you’re with us, the more passionate you’ll become about the charities and their work.
You chat to all kinds of people from all walks of life on the street. That’s enjoyable in itself if you’re a sociable person. Plus you get to make heaps of new friends. And if that wasn’t enough, having in-depth conversations with all these people can really open your horizons and even make you see the world in a different way.
We pay a very competitive salary and also offer generous team bonuses for good performance, which of course means serious teamwork. Please note, we DO NOT pay fundraisers any kind of commission – the cynics are entirely wrong.
The charity sector is notoriously hard to break into. Joining Gift is a brilliant way to pick the skills and experience that will impress employers in the future. Lots of our team have gone to join leading charities after a successful spell.
If you’re a good fundraiser with leadership potential, you could soon be promoted to Team Leader. After that you can progress into management roles, as many fundraisers have done in the past. In fact all of our management team started off as Street Fundraisers. You might just be getting bored of us banging on about that.
Lots of our employees fit full or part-time fundraising hours around studying, their interests or even another job. Acting, music and freelancing are just some things our lot get up to outside work.
Okay, the term is a bit wishy washy, but there’s no denying that street fundraising is "a great way to learn about yourself". There aren’t many jobs better for building your interpersonal skills and confidence.
Gift is a company full of individuals, many with big personalities. But we’re also like-minded in lots of ways, which makes for close-knit teams who socialise like there’s no tomorrow. Except there is a tomorrow, and work starts in the morning!
It’s not just the informal socialising you’ll find here. We run a huge range of regular social events – everything from entering football tournaments, bowling, comedy and music gigs, to bingo, dancing or a simple night in the pub. You name it, we’ve done it. And if we haven’t tried it, we apologise and promise to give it a go soon.
